McDonald's employees take a stand against sexual harassment.

On Monday, Los Angeles based McDonald's employees announced that they will be participating in a 10-day strike following their employer's reported failure to respond to sexual harassment claims. Employees have brought forward their concerns about lewd comments, propositions for sex and widespread groping being common in the workplace.

According to a recently released statement, the striking employees are asking the fast-food giant to form a committee aimed at addressing issues of sexual harassment, comprised of leaders of national women's groups, representatives from corporate and franchise stores, and local McDonalds' employees. The statement in question claims, "This committee would chart a path forward to make sure nobody who works for McDonald's faces sexual harassment on the job." The employees are also calling on the company to require mandatory training sessions for managers and employees, as well as the creation of a more effective system for receiving and responding to complaints.

The strike, scheduled to take place this Tuesday afternoon, will occur in Los Angeles and 9 other cities including Kansas City, Chicago, Missouri, New Orleans, Milwaukee, St. Louis, San Francisco, Durham, Orlando, and Miami. It will be one of the only nationwide walkouts to protest sexual harassment with the last one being in 1912 when employees of the Kalamazoo Corset Company went on strike.
