Earlier in the month, Ariana Grande informed us that her next single would be titled “The Light Is Coming” and most recently, the singer shared a teaser of the new track featuring guest vocals from Nicki Minaj.
According to what she revealed in a sit-down with Jimmy Fallon, the new cut will be set appear on her upcoming "Sweetener" album, due for release later on in the year. The cut is only the latest in Ariana and Nicki’s storied timeline of collabs. The two first hopped on a track together when they came through on Jessie J’s “Bang Bang” smash of 2014, and they linked up again in 2016 for Ariana’s “Side To Side”. Both tracks made their way into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with the former peaking at No. 3 and the latter rising up to No. 4.
Clearly though, the two women’s chemistry bleeds outside of the studio as Nicki Minaj shared a clip of a diamond Chanel choker gifted to her by Ariana writing, “Both my fans and I would cut a btch [sic] for my little sissy @Arianagrande. She bought me this lovely Chanel choker to match hers. Ugh! Her mind."
While Minaj lends her vocals to Ariana’s upcoming project, fans are also prepping for her solo outing "Queen," set for release August 10th. We’ve gotten a taste of the effort through the arrival of her “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz” singles with “Chun-Li” being the more commercially successful of the two. Last week, the track marked Nicki’s 30th entry into the top 10 of Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop charts, tying her with Beyoncé as the only two women to do so.
