The NBA has today released the results of the annual rookie survey, which asks the incoming players to answers questions about the upcoming season including who is most likely to win Rookie of the Year, who will have the best career, who is their favorite current NBA player etc.
According to NBA.com, 20 different players were tabbed as the answer for one -- or both -- of the first two questions: "Who will be the Rookie of the Year" and "Which rookie will have the best career." The most popular choices for 2018-19 Rookie of the Year, however, were Phoenix Suns #1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton, and Cleveland Cavaliers point guard, Collin Sexton. Both players finished with 18% of the vote, ahead of Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic, and New York Knicks forward Kevin Knox, both of whom received 9% of the votes.
NBA.com notes that in the first nine years of this survey, at least one player got at least 24% of the Rookie of the Year vote, including last year where 26% of the rooks pegged Dennis Smith Jr. as the ROY. The only time the rookies actually got it right was in 2007 (the first year of the survey), when Kevin Durant received 54% of the vote.
