Mac Miller's first Grammy nomination is bittersweet.

The Grammy nominations have been released, and while the "Album Of The Year" marks a noted step back from last year's hip-hop lined batch, the "Best Rap Album" category is appropriately stacked. Cardi B, Nipsey Hussle, Travis Scott, Pusha T, and Mac Miller all earned nominations; while such a mainstream ceremony seems likely to hand the award to Cardi, it's still bittersweet to see Mac earning his first nom for Swimming, as he's no longer around to experience it.

Of course, the whole thing remains somewhat eyebrow-raising to begin with. We've already seen many artists blast the Grammys for their shady practices, in which they nominate popular artists to get them to the ceremony, only to be "snubbed" for their troubles. In fact, Eminem previously likened the process to a Faustian bargain, in a song that actually landed a Grammy nomination of its own

There's no disputing that Mac's Swimming stands among the year's best album, but the fact that the Grammys are giving Mac his first nomination upon his death plays out on a dubious note. Still, fans should definitely take solace in the fact that Mac's most personal album is getting major recognition, even if the surrounding circumstances might leave you feeling some type of way.

Rest In Peace, Mac Miller.
