In a segment which aired this afternoon on Genius, unpacked the meaning behind his latest single "I Might Need Security," leading to a sobering moment where he calls for Rahm Emanuel's mayoral chair. In "I Might Need Security" Chance is highly critical of Chicago's elected constable. He raps:
"Bet I get a statue in my hometown when I die
And Rahm, you done, I'm expectin' resignation
An open investigation on all of these paid vacations for murderers."
Chance finally broke is silence over the "constructive criticism." Apparently, he views Rahm as a disgrace to the power he wields. Chance then cites his handling of the Laquan McDonald murder case, as well as his track record of closing down schools instead of revamping their programs and facilities, as two veritable causes for his dismissal.
Chance also attacked The Chicago Sun-Times on "I Might Need Security" in the following excerpt:
"I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist bitches out of business
Speaking of racist, fuck your microaggressions
I'll make you fix your words like a typo suggestion."
Chance added additional insight to his boastful claim by insisting that didn't only purchase the rival paper out of spite, but to "provide more jobs for black and brown people in the city as writers at a high-profile publication." Could Chance make the bilateral step into municipal politics when his rap career simmers down?
