Chance The Rapper addresses the news of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel stepping down after his term.

On Tuesday, surprising news came out of Chicago when Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced he will not seek re-election for a third term, ultimately calling it quits when his term is over.

“As much as I love this job and will always love this city and its residents, I've decided not to seek re-election,” the Rahm said Tuesday. “This has been the job of a lifetime, but it is not a job for a lifetime […] Now with our three children in college, Amy and I have decided it's time to write another chapter together.”

Rahm has been a part of a number controversies since he’s been Mayor of Chicago throughout his time. From mishandling the Laquan McDonald shooting in 2014 to his education policies that resulted in the closure of multiple public schools, the Chicago Mayor has been criticized by several officials & people in Chicago, one of which was Chance The Rapper who called out Rahm on the track “I Might Need Security” from June. “And Rahm you done, I’m expecting a resignation and open investigation on all these paid vacations for murderers,” Chance spits, and luckily for him it turns out he was right.

Following the news of Rahm’s stepping down, Chance hopped on Twitter Tuesday afternoon and gave praise to the organizations who helped secure the mayor’s resignation.

“Shoutout to all the grassroots orgs like @AssataDaughters @BYP_100 and many others that pushed for accountabily and resignation from Rahm. His announcement to not run however, is not Justice for Laquan McDonald, only convicting muderer Jason Van Dyke can bring that,” he tweeted out before saying we need a new mayor who “cares about equity in regards to education, job development and healthcare in one of the most segregated cities in the country.”
