The movie's Thursday night numbers surpassed previous record-holder "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End."

Solo: A Star Wars Story heads into memorial day weekend with a box office record. As Entertainment Weekly reports, the Thursday night preview showings for the film generated $14.1 million, making it the biggest Thursday going into Memorial Day weekend since Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End set the record with $13.2 million.

In order for Solo to take Pirates' record for the full Memorial Day Weekend, the film will have to surpass $153 million. As it stands, the new Star Wars movie is expected to fall just short of that, with projections set between $130 million and $150 million. This means that Solo will also not likely surpass the opening weekends of the previous three Star Wars movies. It stands the greatest chance of besting Rogue One's opening weekend at $155 million.

In related news, Donald Glover, who plays Lando Calrissian in the film, is reportedly being considered for the Black Panther sequel. "Nothing is set in stone but ‘informal talks’ [are happening] between Ryan, Gambino and reps from Marvel and Disney to see if they can make it happen," claimed a source. "They’re still yet to decide if Michael B. Jordan will return in some capacity but if he doesn’t it’s likely Gambino may play some kind of villain." If Glover does take a role, will likely be another big hit for the actor, writer, and musician, as the first Black Panther shattered numerous box office records earlier this year.
