BlocBoy JB, a rapper from Memphis, Tennessee, has exploded in popularity this year, after the successes of his viral "Shoot" song (and accompanying dance), as well as a smash single with Drake, "Look Alive," which made it to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Now, Bloc fans will be excited to hear that he'll be dropping his newest mixtape, Simi, his first since his explosive come up, this Friday, on May 4th.
Bloc went to Instagram to share the news, as well as posting a picture of the cover art, which features Bloc sitting on his roof, with the clouds above him spelling "SIMI," sort of in a similar vein to J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive cover.
Included on the tape will be "Look Alive," obviously, as well as his other recent singles: the 21 Savage-assisted "Rover 2.0," and his self-produced track, "Prod By Bloc." Production credits will include frequent collaborator Tay Keith, Ben Billion, and more.
Bloc has been keeping busy in the lead up to this new mixtape, making an appearance on A$AP Rocky's upcoming Testing album, as well as a series of upcoming performances including Rolling Loud in Miami and the May Weekender Festival in England.
Based on what we've heard so far, Bloc seems ready to capitalize on all the hype he's been bringing this year. Let's hope that the rest of the tracks on Simi will be able to maintain the same energy he's brought so far when it drops on Friday. Check out the album art below.
