The debate over Masai Ujiri's integrity following the trade of DeMar DeRozan rages on. While his public apology to DeMar was an honest example more traditional GMs would never consider doing, we are in an age where the focus on worker's rights is at an all-time high. So naturally the public sided with DeMar DeRozan in his gripe with his former employer. Now a San Antonio Spurs, DeMar took a moment to thank the individuals that aren't negatively implicated in this messy divorce: Raptors' fans and the city of Toronto.
DeMar's thank you message was posted on Instagram next to photo of him signing his throwback number ten jersey for a wishful fan. DeRozan has been fiercely proud of his decision to resign in Toronto, in the face of great temptation. In his message, DeMar thanked the city of Toronto for helping shaping his identity. As he mentions himself, DeMar joined the Raptors organization as a fresh-faced 19-year-old kid from Compton. A lot has transpired in the nine years since. Raptors certainly hope DeMar doesn't become "the one that got away." In every sense of the word, DeMar exemplifies what it means to be a good guy in the world of sports.
