DeMar Derozan is Compton native, so natural Los Angeles Lakers fans try to recruit him while he's in town for summer vacation. The Raptors' pivot grew up a Lakers' fan, attended USC for college, and is a self-described student of Kobe Bryant's game & footwork. And yet, DeMar has resigned in Toronto at every given opportunity, last signing a 5-year deal in 2016 worth a $139 million.
A Twitter user, and apparent Laker fan by the name of Brandon Aguirre fancied himself his favorite team's lead recruiter. While enjoying a day at Los Angeles-area theme park with friends, Aguirre spotted DeRozan passing overhead. Brandon immediately started howling "Rozan-Rozan-Rozan" until it became clear he was being heard, with or without DeMar's full attention. The Laker's fan then asked, "DeRozan, come to the Lakers," to which the Raptor's pivot responded rather crudely, "Hell No!"
With all the questions surrounding the team, DeMar DeRozan is better situated than you'd come to expect, given the shellacking he's received by the certain portions of the Toronto media. Depending on who you ask, some basketball in Canada are merely happy a high profile player chose to resign, while others view Toronto as equal to other big market franchises, and hope the team will upgrade its starting five, effective immediately. There's no reason to ship DeRozan back to Cali unless Masai Ujiri can adequately replace his production.
