While it is certainly a controversial topic, the XXL Freshman List is usually a goal that young rappers wish to attain early in their careers to serve as a marker that they've officially "made it." While only ten artists will be chosen by XXL to be on their Freshman List, hundreds vie for the opportunity to receive such exposure. Although the list has not been formally announced, some acts have spoken out about turning down offers since, according to them, the fan-voted affair is "rigged." Lil Skies and Rich The Kid have touched on the matter this week, explaining why they passed on the opportunity. Somebody that appears to have not been chosen for the list, however, is Lil Xan.
Making headlines for his remarks about Tupac earlier this year, Lil Xan has apparently not made the 2018 Freshman class. Taking to his Instagram, he revealed the news to his fans, saying, "Looks like your boy didn't make XXL probably." The young rapper laughs and says some more but he mumbles his words making it difficult to understand what he is saying. Xan has grown a vast internet following since emerging onto the scene with "Betrayed," and while his album Total Xanarchy may have missed the mark with a lot of people (it received an astonishing 12% approval rating from you guys, the HNHH readers) he does have a lot of supporters around the world.
Why do you think Xan was left off the list? Is it the Tupac hate, his music or a combination of both? Sound off in the comments.
