2K Games has announced that WWE superstar Daniel Bryan will be the focal point of WWE 2K19's Showcase Mode, which features Bryan narrating his own life story as players progress through the mode.
The WWE 2K Showcase, which hasn't been utilized since WWE 2K16, is a story-driven, single-player mode that covers a particular era or rivalry of a WWE Superstar, and includes historic WWE footage that gives context and backstory to the objective-based matches. Completing objectives triggers mid-match cinematic cutscenes that allow games to recreate iconic moments, and also unlocks special arenas, Superstars, attires and championship belts.
According to today's press release, the "Return of Daniel Bryan" Showcase will include 11 historical matches and a bonus or "surprise" match, for a total of 12 Daniel Bryan-centric bouts. These matches include Bryan's first WWE match, when he was going by his real name Bryan Danielson, against John Cena, and his run at Wrestlemania XXX in New Orleans. Since the mode spans the course of Bryan's WWE career to date, there will be 11 different models of him, each equipped with different move sets and unique appearances. Additionally, there will be eight new entrances for Bryan and 11 victory scenes.
Bryan had walked away from the WWE in February of 2016 due to a neck injury, but was later cleared to return to WWE in-ring competition in March. He is set to take on his longtime rival The Miz at SummerSlam this Sunday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
WWE 2K19 will release on all platforms on October 9. Check out some footage from the "Return of Daniel Bryan" 2K Showcase in the video embedded below.
