Post Malone earns his first major award.

Sunday evening, Post Malone laid claim to his first major award when he and 21 Savage were awarded the trophy for Top Rap Song at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. The win comes as no surprise though as “Rockstar” was setting records almost immediately after its release. Last year, the song sat at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for fourteen weeks—the longest run for any rap song in the year. The track also broke streaming records when it found its place at the No. 1 spot on Spotify Global Charts, averaging over 4 million plays a day for at least 108 days.

“This is pretty cool stuff, man. This is my first award by the way,” Post declared as he accepted his award. “Thank you to everybody for supporting me […] I guess my mom and my daddy. Y’all rock. I don’t know what to say, man.”

We’ll probably be seeing Post pop out at next year’s iteration of the awards show in a major way, which relies on performance on the charts when nominating artists. Post’s sophomore Beerbongs & Bentleys album earned the rapper his first No. 1 album this month as it has sat at the top spot for three weeks running now. Upon its release, all 18 tracks on the project sat in the Billboard Hot 100 with nine of them hitting the top 20, eclipsing the previous record of six that was shared by The Beatles and J. Cole.
