Lil Skies reportedly had no time for the XXL Freshman list.

So much for all publicity is good publicity. We live in a time where turning down the XXL Freshman List is considered an affirmation of status. Granted, artists no doubt have their reasons for turning it down, but it's become the norm to hear artists bragging about declining as if it's an accomplishment in itself. Admittedly, such is not exactly the case here. Yet it has come to light that Lil Skies is the latest to have turned down his spot on the cover, at least according to his homie Cole Bennett.

"Skies turned down the xxl cover, that Mf is crazy lol that’s why I love him though," writes Bennett, via Twitter. "one of the realist in the industry nah fr." It's unclear as to why Skies might have declined his position, as it would have been a good look for the up-and-coming rapper. To each their own. Yet it wouldn't be a contemporary hip-hop without a dose of behind-the-scenes drama. According to the watchful eye of Akademiks, Rich The Kid was apparently brought in as Skies' replacement. Yet Rich The Kid was not about to be a back-up plan. Instead, he bailed on the shoot, opting to stage a meet-and-greet in Times Square instead.

Rumor has it that the XXL Freshman list is already circulating, with a lineup including Trippie Redd, J.I.D, Lil Pump, YBN Nahmir, Smokepurpp, Blocboy JB and Stefflon Don. Don't shoot the messenger. What do ya'll think about all these refusals? Plenty of dope artists have accepted the honor graciously. Why the long faces?
