Meek Mill has finally been released from prison after several months of confusion in his case. The Philadelphia rapper was locked up for violating the terms of his probation after performing a wheelie on his bike, spending a long five months in the slammer for a non-violent offense. After Meek's lawyer detailed a conversation that Judge Genece Brinkley had with the "Dreams and Nightmares" rapper and Nicki Minaj, it had been suggested that the judge was biased against Meek, leading to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court allowing him to walk free yesterday. Watching his hometown Sixers knock off the Miami Heat in the first round was the perfect way to end his first day of freedom.
His release is, however, a little bittersweet as the conviction has yet to be overturned. In the meantime, Meek has issued a statement vowing to "work closely with [his] legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction" but it looks as though the judge is not stepping down, despite the Supreme Court inviting her to do so. According to TMZ, Genece Brinkley will not remove herself from Meek's drug and weapons case. Judge Brinkley insists that she has been fair with Meek from the beginning of the trial, noting that she bears no grudge against him.
With both Meek's legal team and prosecutor pushing for his conviction to be overturned, the next step in the case will come in June when it will be decided if the drug and weapons case should be thrown out.
