Tiger Woods made his return to Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, Long Island today for the 118th U.S. Open and kicked things off with a triple bogey seven on the par 4 first hole. For those who aren't avid golfers, that's a disastrous start to your round.
Tiger's first shot went smoothly enough but it didn't take long before the 14-time major champion was dishing out f-bombs en route to his stunning triple bogey. According to ESPN Stats & Info, it was the first time ever that Woods opened with a triple bogey at the U.S. Open. And the trolls were ready to pounce.
Wendy's, the fast food chain that has made a habit out of jumping into the latest social media trends, was quick to take a jab at Tiger following his lackluster start.
As of this writing, Woods is tied for 48th out of 156 participants, with a +4 thru 12 holes in first round.
That said, he isn't the only golfer who experienced issues at Shinnecock today. High winds and brutal course conditions contributed to several high scores in the first round, including a +10 from Rory McIlroy, who posted his worst round to par in his career at a major, according to CBS Sports.
