Janelle Monae has proven that aside from being an accomplished and well-celebrated musician, she is also a talented actress. It was recently announced that Monae would be joining the cast of the live-action adaptation of the Disney film, Lady and the Tramp.
The film will be directed by Charlie Bean, one of the creatives behind The Lego Ninjago Movie. The script was written by Andrew Bujalski while Jessica Virtue and Chaz Salembier will be overseeing the film's production. The film is expected to premiere on Disney’s upcoming digital streaming service, expected to launch in 2019.
Monae is said to be voicing the character of Peg, one the dogs that Lady meets at a dog pound. Actress Tessa Thompson will reportedly play the role of Lady, while Justin Theroux occupies that of Tramp. Other costars include Thomas Mann who is set to act as Lady’s human owner, Jim Dear, and Kiersey Clemons who will play the owner's wife, Darling. The majority of the cast will act as CGI characters, similar to those in “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Jungle Book,” with the exception of Mann and Clemons who will be in live action roles.
Monae was also recently cast in a Harriet Tubman biopic, read about that here.
