Despite the fact that hip-hop is arguably the most popular musical genre in the world, an overall scan of the Teen Choice Awards winners seem to indicate a rather milquetoast affair. In truth, hip-hop is far from properly represented, despite the fact that teens Nationwide no doubt worship the ground rappers walk-on, leading us to wonder, which teens are actually choosing these winners? In any case, only a few rappers found themselves securing the dub, including wins for Cardi B and Young Thug.
While Thug was awarded for his contributions to Camila Cabello's "Havana," the main award went to Cabello herself for "Choice Song: Female Artist." Cardi B found herself taking home on of the night's biggest honors, the "Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Artist" award. Again, an examination of the categories and winners doesn't exactly suggest a nuanced approach, though fans of the genre should take wins where they are given. Congrats to Cardi and Thug for this one.
Although not hip-hop, Marvel's squad had a big night, with victories to Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlet Johansson, Letitia Wright, Infinity War, and Black Panther. Peep the full list of winners here.
