Minnesota Timberwolves' All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns set a franchise record last night, scoring 56 points as the Timberwolves beat the Atlanta Hawks 126-114. In addition to his 56 points, KAT also grabbed 15 rebounds for his league-leading 63rd double-double of the season.
The Timberwolves' previous single-game scoring record was 52 points, set by Mo Williams in 2015.
"I just realized the ball kept coming to me more and more often," Towns said, according to USA Today Sports. "I guess that was a sign to shoot the ball. Everyone just kept telling me, 'You need six more, you need eight more, for 50.' I wasn't really thinking about that. I was just trying to find a way to win."
Minnesota's victory over the Hawks puts them at 43-33 for the season which is just good enough for seventh in the Western Conference. The T'Wolves sit a half-game behind the New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs but are also just a half-game up on the eighth seed Utah Jazz.
