The Los Angeles Clippers reportedly proposed a trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves involving Blake Griffin and Karl-Anthony Towns, according to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders.
In his third season, Towns is averaging 20.2 points per game, second-highest on the team, as well as a team-high 12 rebounds per night. What's more, KAT still has two more years on his rookie contract with a $6.2 million salary this season and $7.8 million in 2018-19, per Spotrac.
Minnesota is currently sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 29-16 record, just a half game back of the San Antonio Spurs. Barring a catastrophic collapse in the second half of the season, the Wolves are well on their way to snapping their 13-year playoff drought.
Needless to say, the team doesn't have any desire to trade their 22-year old franchise cornerstone. Apparently, that didn't stop the Clippers from reaching out.
Blake Griffin, averaging 22.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game, signed a five-year max contract worth $173 million with the Clips last Summer, but he has already missed 16 games this season. That said, the Clippers have still managed a 21-21 record thus far and are hovering around the 8th seed in the West.
DeAndre Jordan has also been mentioned in several trade rumors and the Clippers will likely remain in the news leading up to the NBA's February 8th trade deadline.
