Lakers announce Thomas will undergo hip surgery.

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Isaiah Thomas will reportedly undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right hip and he's expected to have an extended rehabilitation process, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Thomas was sidelined for roughly eight months due to a torn labrum in his right hip in last year's playoffs and the upcoming procedure will attempt to "clean up the joint of all inflammatory debris" related to that injury.

The 29-year old point guard is set to become a free agent at the conclusion of this season, but the Lakers have informed him that he'll have full access to the team's practice facility throughout his rehabilitation program, according to Wojnarowski

"In a statement received by ESPN, Dr. Bryan Kelly of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York said the the minimally invasive procedure is to "clean up the joint of all inflammatory debris related to his injury from last season.""

According to Yahoo Sports senior writer Chris Mannix, Thomas "is likely looking at a one-year deal this summer." The Lakers could be interested in bringing him back on a one-year deal if they fail to lure big time free agents such as LeBron James and/or Paul George, according to Wojnarowski.

Thomas played in just 15 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season before being dealt to the Lakers at the trade deadline. In 17 games with the Lakers, he is averaging 15.6 points and five assists.
