Apparently, there is no such thing as superhero movie fatigue. Don't tell that to James Cameron though, who seems to be in a fuss because the Avengers are set to knock him out of the top spot for #1 movie of all time. After less than a month in theaters, Avengers: Infinity War is already the 5th highest grossing film of all time. The only movie that can stop the Avengers from sitting on the throne for another week, would be Deadpool 2.
Although Deadpool 2 is a FOX title, Marvel still owns the overall rights to the Merc with the Mouth. It's complicated to explain, but the comic book company sold the movie rights for several of their heroes in the 90's when they were panicked about their income. FOX scooped up the X-Men, and Deadpool happened to be included in that deal. At the end of the day, Avengers: Infinity War will only be unseated by another Marvel character. Their dominance at the box-office is getting a bit ridiculous. Prior to Infinity War's unprecedented run, another Marvel title, Black Panther, raked in over $1 billion.
Deadpool 2 might reach the same billion dollar mark. According to Hypebeast, the sequel is projected to make $305-$350 million internationally this weekend. Deadpool 2 is already playing in overseas markets. If the projections hold true, Deadpool will beat his own record for an R-Rated movie opening weekend total gross.
