Despite the controversy surrounding his name, Tekashi 6ix9ine is proving to be a young hit maker in the rap game. His first three entries on the Billboard Hot 100 have been doing well, including "Gummo" which hit the top 20 on the charts. In addition to that, he's received co-signs from the likes of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Fetty Wap and more recently, Tory Lanez. However, one particular legend in hip hop recently compared 6ix9ine to one of hip hop's most revered groups.
Swizz Beatz recently spoke to Billboard at the Roc Nation Brunch this past week, prior to the Grammys. Despite the controversy surrounding Tekashi's name due to his upcoming trial, Swizz Beatz isn't looking at him like that. Instead, his appreciation for the young rapper stems from the fact he reminds him of Sticky Fingaz from Onyx.
"I support the younger artists," he said. "You know, the thing about him is that he reminds me of Sticky Fingaz from Onyx. You know, I like that energy of that Onyx, "Throw Ya Guns" in the air vibe. So when I look at him, I'm not looking at him probably for the other reasons people are looking at him, I'm looking at him because he reminds me of something that I knew [that] was great at one point in time."
Swizz Beatz was one of the earliest people to hop on the Tekashi wave. Around the time "Gummo" started blowing up, Swizz and 6ix9ine were spotted in the studio together. Hopefully, their collaboration lands on 6ix9ine's upcoming project which is slated to drop on Feb. 23rd.
