BlocBoy JB has probably told the story of how he linked up with Drake hundreds of times in interviews, but the result of their collaboration, "Look Alive," did truly change his life. While BlocBoy had gained a bit of internet notoriety for his viral "Shoot Dance," it wasn't until he got the Drizzy push that he was catapulted into stardom.
The song come complete with an aggressive ear worm beat from local Memphis producer Tay Keith, and Drake's impeccable hook writing skills made for the perfect introduction to BlocBoy's goofy diction, ad-libs, and of course, his dancing. The video, which was released soon after, would continue to affirm the song's successes.
Since then he's released his latest mixtape, Simi, and appeared on songs with artists such as Childish Gambino and A$AP Rocky. Now he can add another accomplishment to the list as, according to Chart Data, "Look Alive" has hit platinum status. This marks his first ever platinum plaque as either the main artist or a featured artist, and represents a major milestone in an artist's career.
When the song debuted earlier this year, it made a massive debut on the Billboard charts, debuting firming within the top 10 at number 6 on the list. The song has been BlocBoy's biggest hit by far, but only just recently managed to hit platinum status. BlocBoy is still in the infancy of his rap career, and it's not unthinkable to imagine that he'll be able to repeat this feat once again, perhaps without the assistance of Drake next time.
