The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly ID'd the fan who taunted San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills on Sunday and he has been banned from Quicken Loans Arena indefinitely, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. The Cavaliers organization will reportedly review the ban after one year.
According to Sporting News, microphones at Quicken Loans Arena picked up the fan's comments toward Mills during the fourth quarter of San Antonio's 110-94 win.
"Hey, Jamaican dog. They want their bobsledder back," the fan can be heard yelling at Mills. "Hey Mills, Jamaica just called; they want their bobsledder back."
Mills, who was born in Australia and whose parents are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, responded to a video of the incident on twitter, "I am a proud Islander. Like my Jamaican Brothers, me & my family in the islands of the Torres Strait have experienced racial slurs for decades. Hope your efforts will enlighten this confused, hateful fan. #BlackHistoryMonth."
According to NBA.com, (H/T Bleacher Report), Mills' mother and her siblings were forcibly removed from their family when she was two years old because her father was white and her mother was an Aboriginal Australian.
The 29-year old point guard is averaging 9.6 points in 61 games this season, 15 of which he has started. The Spurs, 36-25, are currently sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference.
