Though it didn't seem possible a month ago, July is giving June a run for its money in terms of rap releases. Over the last 5 weeks, Yg, Mac Miller, and Travis Scott have all announced release dates for new projects, and they all happen to be the same day: Friday, August 3rd, or, tomorrow. Hip-hop has always been a competitive artform, but YG has made sure that he's going into his first sales week with nothing but support for his peers. Posting on Instagram Thursday morning, the Compton rapper shared posts featuring the artwork for Mac Miller's Swimming and Travis Scott's Astroworld, subbing his own Stay Dangerous title in and turning August 3rd into something of a rap holiday. Out of respect to one another (and of course in the artists' own interest), big releases often tend to be strategically spread out. However, once in a while, a few huge releases end up occupying the same date. Back in 2013, Mac Miller had a similar experience with his GOOD:AM release date, which he shared with Kanye West's Yeezus and J. Cole's Born Sinner. The week after YG, Travis, and Mac drop, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande will drop their respective fourth albums Queen and Sweetener on August 17th.
YG's Stay Dangerous is his third studio album, following 2016's Still Brazy. It's preceded by the single "Big Bank," which continues to make its way up the Hot 100.
