While 2018 has been extremely solid on the music front, one thing we've been sorely lacking is news on Groovy Q. While TDE has already had a solid year, with the Kendrick Lamar curated Black Panther: The Album and Jay Rock's Redemption, an autumnal offering from ScHoolboy Q would be exactly what the game needs. To be fair, updates from last year seemed to signal an imminent release for the Blank Face followup, given ScHoolboy's almost clockwork studio updates. Now, nearly eight months into a new year, Q has been uncharacteristically silent.
Luckily, Top Dawg has come through to provide some much needed clarity. Though Q himself was firing off 90% completion rumors, it would appear such notions were ultimately "fake news." When a fan wondered whether or not any "real news" was available, Top came through with a gem: "90 to 95% done." Perhaps we'll be treated to some new Q after all; it wouldn't be surprising to see him round out the year, ending TDE's run with a bang.
Again, keep in mind that percentages of this nature can change on an artist's whim. For now, however, we can pray that Top Dawg is speaking truth. If so, expect ScHoolboy to re-enter the public eye, as the game has been sorely lacking his personality. Let's get that ScHoolboy album by years end, followed by some new Ab-Soul in 2019.
