2017 saw Vin Diesel reign supreme at the worldwide box office, and the proof is in the receipts. According to Forbes, which just released its annual report on the year's top earning actors, Diesel's films made a cool $1.6 billion in ticket sales globally, easily trumping the rest of his competition.
These numbers are aided in part by Diesel's involvement in the massively successful Fast and the Furious franchise, which saw its latest instalment, The Fate of the Furious, dominate the worldwide box office after its release in April. Diesel's other contribution to his sizeable earnings was xXx: The Return of Xander, which was modestly responsible for his $1.6 billion dollar gross.
Furthermore, Diesel's earnings easily top last year's highest grossing actor, Scarlett Johansson, and her $1.2 billion dollar revenue for the year.
Following in second place is Diesel's Fate of the Furious co-star Dwayne Johnson, who netted a box office total of $1.5 billion this year. While the lacklustre ticket sales of Baywatch may have hindered his chances at worldwide domination, Johnson's role in The Fate of the Furious easily contributed to his runner-up position.
Rounding out the top three is Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot, who earned an impressive $1.4 billion based off her two releases this year: the critically-acclaimed Wonder Woman, and the much maligned Justice League.
Here is a list of the top ten highest grossing actors of this year:
