While the gender pay gap is definitely a thing in Hollywood (and everywhere else), you won’t evidence for it in Forbes’ list of the top ten highest grossing actors and actresses. Scarlett Johansson (who is a woman, for those not paying attention) takes home the top spot, starring in movies that grossed over $1.2 billion in 2016. That’s a lot of dough.
To be clear, this isn’t the amount Johansson herself made in 2016 – it’s how much money the movies she appeared in made. It’s still an impressive feat although she’s buoyed by ensemble flicks like “Captain America: Civil War” and “Hail, Caesar!” This cements Johansson’s spot as the highest grossing actress of all time.
Check out the full list below, including how much each actor’s movies grossed. If it seems off (no Dwyane Johnson?) that’s because animated films were not included. Sadly, only one minority made it into the list – Will Smith. It clearly pays to be in superhero movies, but "Suicide Squad" just wasn't enough.
