If anyone needed further proof that hip-hop is now the most dominant genre in mainstream music, look no further than Google's end of year search report.
The Internet giant recently made some statistics public about 2017's most searched for keywords in the United States and, as far as the music industry goes, several rap stars were near the top of that list.
In terms of solo artists or bands being looked up on Google, Cardi B and Lil Pump, two of rap's breakout stars from this past year, placed No. 2 and 3 respectively in terms of the number of times they were Googled. Only Linkin Park had more search queries in 2017, largely due to the tragic and sudden passing of lead singer Chester Bennington, who committed suicide in June.
Elsewhere in the Top Ten for most searched artists and/or bands, Joyner Lucas came in at No. 4, despite having a relatively quiet year until "I'm Not Racist" blew up in November. Bhad Bhabie, aka Danielle Bregoli, came in at No. 6, Post Malone at No. 7 and Remy Ma, perhaps because of her ongoing feuds with the likes of Nicki Minaj and others, nabbed the No. 9 spot.
For song lyric searches, hip-hop acts were high on that list as well. Kendrick Lamar's "Humble" had the second-most searched for lyrics in 2017, followed by Migos' "Bad and Boujee." Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow," Lil Pump's "Gucci Gang" and Future's "Mask Off" were also on that list. You can view the full breakdown from Google here.
