Sacha Baron Cohen Cast In Upcoming Netflix Mini-Series "The Spy"

The funnyman is entering into some new dramatic territory.

Sacha Baron Cohen, the man behind some of television's most beloved characters including Borat, Ali G and Bruno will be flexing his acting chops as the lead character in the forthcoming Netflix limited series The Spy.

The production will contain six episodes, and will chronicle the the life of Eli Cohen, a spy for Israel sanctioned in Syria in the early 1960s. The sleuth was able to insert himself in Syria's high society whilst rising through the ranks in their political system. Cohen's actions, connections, as well as his death have had a lasting effect on the Middle East, and this series aims to bring awareness to his valiant efforts through an engrossing drama. 

Sacha Baron Cohen can be seen in the Netflix special Seth Rogen's Hilarity for Charity, which premiered on the streaming service on April 6. The Spy will be the actor's first starring role in a television series since he created and starred in Da Ali G Show. The show eventually adapted into three successful films, with Borat giving Cohen an Oscar nomination in 2007 for Best Adapted Screenplay. 

The Spy will be written and directed by Gideon Raff, the man behind Homeland offshoot Prisoner of War
