Joe Budden may have departed Everyday Struggle before it could truly cement itself as a hip-hop media staple, but that doesn't mean he won't continue to make waves in 2018. Not only has Budden single-handedly seemed to bring "trash" back into the collective lexicon, but now he's teamed up with an equally controversial and hilarious personality, The Breakfast Club's Charlamagne Tha God. Together, Uncle Charla and Joe Budden have linked up the ultimate recap, appropriately titled This Year Was Dope/Trash."
The concept is tried and true, building off a "good-host, bad-host," dynamic; it might be surprising to find Charlamagne Tha God filling in the "good-host" role, but that's the simple power of Budden. And while there are plenty of comedic moments throughout, the special is also a nuanced and informed discussion on hip-hop, with subjects like "album of the year," "lyricist of the year," and more. It's cool to hear the hosts really break down their favorite releases, and to no one's surprise, both have many great things to say about Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. "Kendrick raised the bar, it was difficult for n***as to come after him. I'm feeling Kendrick, he's one."
If you enjoy either Budden, Charlamagne, or both, you'll certainly get a kick out of this recap. Check it out below, and stay tuned for more on Budden's 2018 moves. In related news, Everyday Struggle's Nadeska Alexis recently spoke out about the show's implosion, which you can check out by hitting the link above. What did ya'll think, was this year dope...or trash?
