The curious case of the Lil Uzi Vert Platinum Plaque is upon us.
Yesterday (November 29th), Wiz Khalifa received a plaque from the RIAA for a single that has been certified Platinum multiple times. This statement wouldn't normally sound out of the ordinary, since Wiz Khalifa is a hugely successful rappers with several hit songs to his name, so it's totally conceivable that one of his tracks just crossed another sales plus streaming threshold, as determined by the RIAA. Only, that's the not case, since the plaque isn't actually for one of his songs.
According a video that Wiz posted on social media, he was inexplicably sent another Platinum level plaque for the Lil Uzi Vert single "XO Tour Llif3," in honor of the track crossing the 3 million units moved mark. Khalifa is no stranger to having a somber-sounding hit in his arsenal, after having killed it with "See You Again" which, at one time, was the most-streamed song on YouTube. Not too bad, but in terms of his involvement with the Uzi track, as far as we can tell, there is none.
Some conspiracy theorists are linking this back to a December 2016 tweet from Wiz, who gave a pretty cryptic response when asked by a fan if Lil Uzi Vert was being signed to Taylor Gang.
Of course, both DJ Drama and Cannon, who had a hand in creating this year's wildly successful Luv Is Rage 2, said that any rumored signing of the Philly Native to the Khalifa-affiliated entertainment company were false. In fact, Drama went so far to say that Uzi "is only signed to Generation Now LLC." Cannon, echoing those sentiments, said that he and Drama had nothing but love for the Taylor Gang crew.
So why was the plaque delivered to Wiz Khalifa? Could it have been an address mix-up? Or is there a deeper story to be had here? Only time well tell. Let us know what your theories are in the comments section.
