Trinidad James is poised to be the next phenom rapper, following in the footsteps of A$AP Rocky by getting huge after a video of his ("All Gold Everything") went viral. However not everyone is ready to jump on the Trinidad band-wagon, and there has been criticism about his banger "All Gold Everything."
Record labels came calling to the Atlanta resident shortly after his break-out video, and he signed a deal with Def Jam for $2 million. This is impressive enough, considering the rapper said he'd only been spitting for ten months prior to releasing his debut mixtape, Don't Be S.A.F.E. (which housed "All Gold Everything").
Now the VP of A&R at Def Jam, Sha Money XL, has spoke to HHDX about their newest signee, and the criticism towards his single.
"I think it’s really still about the music. Trinidad [James] created a record that everyone can say they liked," he said. "No matter how much they make fun of him and mash him up with the jokes, they like the damn record. Music is music. The formula, when you talk about mixtapes and how you put content out, you have the seed to plant. You create awareness, and you grow. That’s a formula we all see. But I think the ultimate part of the formula is that the music has gotta be dope."
Trinidad James released an official remix to "All Gold Everything" since inking to a major label, and also has his first headlining tour coming up.
