Just 24 hours after declaring a victory over those that counted him out when he made his debut five months ago, Tekashi 6IX9INE has allegedly decided that all the brags and boasts that he’s accumulated in the relatively short amount of time has been enough. In a new Instagram post, the controversial New York City rapper wrote out in a caption, “Ima quit rapping this year. I accomplished everything I dreamed of in 5 months.”
Everything that he’s achieved includes landing on the Billboard charts on multiple occasions, with his debut “GUMMO” track peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard 100 while his debut project Day69, peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 album charts.
Officially, 6IX9INE has already earned two RIAA certification plaques with one being platinum for “GUMMO” and the other being gold for his follow up track “KOODA.” Taking it all into consideration, the Brooklyn native has really garnered attention that some industry vets have never even touched—for better and for worse.
While 6IX9INE has collaborated with heavy hitters like Offset, Tory Lanez, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Young Thug, and Fetty Wap among others, he’s found his fair share of differences with other members of the community, including The Game and YG who took issue with the rapper’s shaky gang affiliation. Additionally, a guilty plea on sexual misconduct involving a minor—a crime committed when he was 18—has led to many labelling the rapper a pedophile, including former friend Trippie Redd. Even his beef is storied.
Could 6IX9INE be willing to give up on a career that, for all its headline-making twists and turns, is still just getting started? Or is this just a classic case of Internet trolling? Sound off with your thoughts down below.
