This year has been horrible in terms of the number of artists we've lost due to gun violence. So many of our favorite rappers have lost their lives in 2018 and we're saddened to have to report on yet another death in the community. It's being reported that Young Greatness, a New Orleans rapper best known for his breakout single "Moolah," has passed away after being involved in a shooting outside of an Elysian Fields Waffle House.
Greatness, real name Theodore Jones, was the victim of a shooting in New Orleans at approximately 1:35 AM this morning. The artist's most popular song had reached the Billboard Hot 100, gaining him fame in his city and allowing him to pursue a career as a musician. He most recently released "Paper" in April, which we outlined as a HotNewHipHop premiere. Many have been reaching out to extend their condolences to the 34-year-old's family and friends, including Young Dolph and others.
According to WWL, no persons of interest have been identified. A motive is also yet to be determined. When police arrived on the scene, Young Greatness had been struck with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.
In a year with so many tragic deaths in the hip-hop community, it's horrible to have to write about another one. R.I.P. Young Greatness.
