There are a few rapper-producer combos that just work so well every time. Lil Uzi Vert and Maaly Raw go hand-in-hand and Rico Nasty and Kenny Beats is a growing duo we need to watch out for as well. There are tons of established acts that have proven themselves to work extremely well with one specific beatmaker. 21 Savage and Metro Boomin are near the top of that list. But you can't mention these sorts of duos without talking about YG and Mustard. The two go together like peanut butter and jelly or, dare I say, a smoked meat sandwich and mustard. They've been extremely influential in modern West Coast hip-hop but YG's most recent statement may not sit well with old heads around the world.
Posting a photo of the two together, YG likened himself and Mustard to a classic producer and rapper pairing: Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. The Bompton rapper's caption was simple, writing in the faction's name and letting the commenters go to work. While we're certainly not discrediting the hard work that YG and Mustard have achieved in shaping the sounds of the West, Snoop & Dre are an iconic team and they created a strong legacy together. YG and Mustard are on their way but many would argue that there's still work to be done. Maybe 4REAL 4REAL will be another step in the right direction.
