Last week, YG hopped on twitter and said he had “something big for LA real soon,” and it looks like we now know what that is. On Monday, the West Coast rapper announced the first annual "Boogie" event during this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend in LA.
In collaboration with 4Hunnid and Goldenvoice, the special concert & event is scheduled to take place on Feb. 17, the Saturday night during the NBA’s All-Star festivities, at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The lineup will feature some of YG’s famous friends, but no names have been announced just yet.
While a city-wide concert thrown by LA’s own YG typically wouldn't be a big ordeal as artists put on for their hometowns all the time, but this one is bit different. This is a momentous occasion for the 4Hunnid boss because it is his first headlining show in Los Angeles since the LAPD banned “all local YG related performances,” according to his IG post’s caption & press release.
“THE BOOGIE” My first headline show in LA since being banned in 2014. Tickets on sale Wednesday on www.4hunnid.com," he captioned on IG.
The announcement comes just days after YG made headlines for his comments made about Eminem’s Anti-Trump freestyle. While he didn’t directly say anything about Em’s cypher, he just wanted the credit to be the first to diss Trump on the mic last year with Nipsey Hussle on “FDT.” “So we don't get no credit for dissing TRUMP a year ago? Mann, FUCK TRUMP 4reals tho. Fuck this internet shit. It's really fuck em,” YG tweeted out in a since-deleted post.
Tickets for the Boogie event will go on sale this Friday, October 20th for general public, meanwhile American Express credit card holders can cop as early as Oct. 18, followed by the general pre-sale on Oct. 19.
If you happen to be in the LA area for Super Bowl weekend, you definitely won’t want to miss out on this. Im sure YG will have some very special guests to bring out. Check out the flyer for “The Boogie” event (below).
In other news, YG’s long awaited Just Re’d Up 3: Know Your Worth project is reportedly still on the way. We’ll continue to keep you posted on details moving forward.
