This year's BET Hip-Hop Awards took place right near XXXTentacion's home. The ceremony was filmed at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach this past weekend, and the late Floridian rapper received some posthumous love. X was blessed with the Best New Artist award, beating out Rich The Kid, Lil Baby, Juice WRLD, and Blocboy JB. X's influence on hip-hop, and his untimely death, has been one of the most bittersweet stories of the year. While his music will inspire generations to come, his presence will sorely be missed. X's mother Cleopatra Bernard accepted the award on her son's behalf. She was joined on stage by X's former manager Solomon Sounds, and his former lawyer Bob Celestin.
The 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards will air on October 16. As per tradition, there will be cyphers included throughout the award show. There is already drama circulating the cyphers concerning Vic Mensa allegedly taking a shot at X during his segment. DJ Scheme took to Twitter to call Vic out, writing, "yo bro how u gone say 'Your favorite rapper is an abuser' and then follow it with a line saying 'some shit X some shit so I won’t live long' u can deny it but everyone who was there heard that shit." Scheme later congratulated X on the Best New Artist win.
