Over the years, the nickname of Washington's NFL team has received a ton of scrutiny, justifiably so. Many are appalled by the name while some feel as though it is a none issue. Those who feel the latter, are those not personally affected by the name. Meanwhile, those who have an issue with it or those who feel targeted by the slur, as well as those who fight and stand up for racial injustice on a daily basis.
Washington owner Dan Snyder has repeatedly said that he won't change the name of the team although the time is now to do something about it. In fact, the editorial board of the Washington Post recently penned a piece urging Snyder to take action. With racial injustice protests raging on throughout the country, the time is now to do something.

“This should be an easy call. Mr. Snyder — or, if Mr. Snyder refuses to back down from his declaration of “NEVER,” the NFL — should take advantage of this singular moment in history to get on the right side of history,” the Washington Post explained. “Change the name. NOW.”
At this point, Snyder seems adamant about keeping things the same although hopefully, he has a change of heart, sooner rather than later.
