Vince Staples is hardly camera shy, and his no-nonsense demeanor has led to many a memorable interview. Clearly, a casting director saw the potential for dramatic gold, and made sure to throw Vince Staples' hat in the ring. Now, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Staples is set to star in the lead role of the upcoming indie film Punk, helmed by Australian director Richard Hughes.
The rapper will be playing a character by the name of Peter, who finds himself hitting the road after a rejection letter crushes his spirit. During his travels, he ultimately falls in with a ragtag bunch, who turn out to be a gang of bank robbers; to make matters worse, or better, depending on perspective, their leader holds a position on the FBI's top ten most wanted lists.
While this marks Vince's first lead role, he's actually been in the pictures before. You might have caught his chops in action during Rick Famuyiwa's Dope, where he held it down with a minor role. Keep an eye out for Punk, set for release in the near future.
