The UK rap scene is mourning the sudden and tragic death of one of its very own: Cadet. The 28-year-old dies when his Taxi crashed on its way to a gig. His death was first announced by a family member on Instagram, then later confirmed by his cousin Krept and his close friend Konan who make up to musical duo Krept and Konan. As you imagine, the word reached Twitter, where as of this morning, members of his entourage and the UK rap scene have assembled to pay their respects.
Even the Wireless Festival who had booked Cadet for their 2019 lineup was quick to address the situation by committing his keeping his time slot open "a time to reflect on the memory of Blaine". Cadet aka Blaine Johnson was known for his freestyle sessions, and was well regarded within his artistic community as a "great big hype."
His family has issued the following statement via his private Instagram page: "We, the family of Blaine Cameron Johnson known as Cadet (Underrated Legend), would like to share the sad news that during the early hours of 9 February 2019 he passed away as a passenger in a taxi, en route to a performance."
Cadet's management says they will an official statement when "more details emerge."
