Twitter Reacts To Ava DuVernay's Central Park Five Series "When They See Us"

We recently reported on the release of Ava DuVernay's limited series When They See Us. The show, which aired this past Friday, revisited the series of events which involved five wrongfully accused Black & Brown youth then known as the Central Park Five. Teenagers Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise were wrongfully accused of brutally raping a Central Park jogger during the late 1980s. Their long and enduring fight led to their exonerations in 2002, yet the youth still suffered in the aftermath. The series attempted to grasp all the related events in its entirety and did so wonderfully. Evidently, considering how tragic the story is, the Netflix Original sparked an array of emotions on social media. 

Twitter users ensured to mentally prepare for what they were about to watch. And the latter is expected because the stories of the Central Park Five youth remains a very sad and tragic one. Moreover, Ava DuVernay had for aim to open up the conversation surrounding the treatment of minorities at the hands of police as well as their experiences in the justice system. While the miniseries sparked anger in some, it led to sadness in the other. As such, here is a compilation of the reactions from the tragic show.
