In case you missed it, rapper Troy Ave recently dropped a song called "2 Legit 2 Quit," which seemed to feature a few noteworthy lyrics. In fact, the rapper seems to suggest he will be testifying in court against Taxstone, the man who allegedly shot and killed Ronald "Banga" McPhatter, Troy Ave's bodyguard, back in May. Now, Ave seems intent on bringing Taxstone to justice, and if his lyrics are to be interpreted, it seems likely that Troy is ready to hold nothing back. "I’m only loyal to my fam, middle finger from the stand, it’s either me or you," raps Troy, around the track's 55 second mark.
Two years have since passed since the shooting occurred at New York City's Irving Plaza. Gunshots went off before a T.I. headlining performance, and the ensuing frenzy and firefight left four people shot. Only Banga was killed, and Troy Ave was actually arrested as a suspect, as security footage captured him opening fire backstage. Ave's name was eventually cleared when police found Taxstone's DNA on the weapon, as well as another weapon involved in the shooting. The new evidence led to Taxstone's arrest at the beginning of 2017.
Taxstone previously pleaded guilty to federal gun charges, possessing a firearm as a felon, and receiving a firearm in interstate commerce. He is currently awaiting an official court date. When the time comes, it seems likely that he will have to contend with Troy Ave, who may very well have no problem taking the stand.
