The third school shooting in seven days, as well as the 22nd school shooting all year, occurred today at Santa Fe high school in Texas. The Los Angeles Times reports that Dimitrios Pagourtzis has been arrested for killing up to ten people, mostly students, during a massacre. Pagourtzis is 17 years old, and was a junior at the high school who played football. The Times dug into Pagourtzis' social media accounts, and found that the young boy had an obsession with guns.
Candi Thurman, a student in the same grade as Pagourtzis, told the Times, "All I have to say is Dimitri wore a trench coat to school every day from the beginning of the year and it's no wonder he was capable of getting guns in the school." The shooter also had frequent pentagrams and anti-political posts on his social media pages. He took pictures holding a gun, and mostly followed other pro-gun social media accounts. According to reports, the shooting began at around 7:45 am on Friday (May 18) and Pagourtzis used a shotgun and a .38 revolver to commit the murders.
The president addressed the shooting briefly in what has become a regularly scheduled occurrence for Americans. "This has been going on too long in our country, too many years, too many decades now," Trump stated. "We grieve for the terrible loss of life and send our support and love to everyone affected by this absolutely horrific attack to the students, families, teachers, and personnel at Santa Fe High."
