Thought to have split back in 2011 following the release of their latest album The Fall, British-virtual rock band The Gorillaz returned from their 7 year hiatus last month when they came out of nowhere and announced their fifth studio LP called Humanz. Having spent the past six weeks promoting the album, where they even performed it live for fans in London & released several singles in the process (“Saturnz Barz," “Andromeda," "We Got the Power" “Ascension” & “Let Me Out”), Humanz has finally arrived today on iTunes.
Laced with a whopping 26 tracks in total on the deluxe edition, the follow up to 2010’s The Fall features guest appearances from a wide array of artists, including Pusha T, Danny Brown, DRAM, Popcaan, De La Soul, Vince Staples, Anthony Hamilton, and many more. Meanwhile, production is handled entirely by Gorillaz’ own Remi Kabaka &The Twilite Tone.
The album takes on an apocalyptic vision as its central theme. It uses the word “Humanz" as the album title because of the disturbing trends the group has observed in modern life (ie: Donald Trump)... “It’s humanz with a Z, which, simply put, [means] we’re in transition. We’re turning into something else. The album came from this dark fantasy that came into my head the beginning of last year, which was imagining the weirdest, unpredictable thing happening that changes everything about the world.” Damon Albarn says.
Available now on iTunes, fans can stream the new body of work in its entirety via Apple Music. Hit play and let us know what record you’re feeling the most?
