Maybe "Shazam!" can help the DCEU.

DC Comics' movie universe, the DCEU, has failed to compete with Marvel in every way. To be fair, Marvel started their cinematic universe in 2008, the same year that DC dropped The Dark Knight. If DC had stuck to that path, they would have secured box office tickets for decades. Instead, they restarted the universe off the strength of Man of Steel, and slowly released questionable films after that. While Wonder Woman was a gem, Suicide Squad could have been better, Batman V Superman felt rushed, and Justice League didn't live up to the hype

DC is looking to change things up next year with the release of Wonder Woman 2 and Shazam! The latter is based on a character who was named Captain Marvel when he was created in the 40's. By the time the comic changed owners and was republished Captain Marvel was also a Marvel hero, so DC went with the name Shazam, which is a chant from the comic book. When Billy, who is just a child, says "Shazam," he turns into a superhero. Zachary Levi, most famous for his role in Chuck, is set to star in the live-action Shazam! film, and the first official picture of him in costume have hit the web.

Unlike the shaky leaked pictures, the final product looks much more vibrant. The film's Instagram posted a picture of Levi standing next to a poster of himself as the superhero. "This is what dreams are made of. Complete and total wish fulfillment, plus a beverage," he wrote as the caption. Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
