For the past couple of weeks, Selena Gomez has dedicated her Instagram to the cause of educating her followers on ongoing issues within the black community. She invited Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza, Killer Mike, and author Ibram X. Kendi to conduct Instagram takeovers in the hopes of connecting with her massive Instagram platform.
Yesterday, as a token of her appreciation, Selena shared a collage of the activists that contributed to the cause: “I want to thank all of the amazing people that took the time to speak to us directly. I am blown away with your knowledge, eagerness to teach and commitment to ensuring Black voices are not silenced. Educating ourselves is the first step if we hope to make any progress in bringing an end to systemic racism.”
She goes on to encourage people to use their voices and vote in the upcoming election. She also urges everyone to take some time for conversation today in honor of Juneteenth.
“If you missed any of these incredible IG stories they are all saved in my Story Highlights under #BLM and #BLM2. This is just the beginning and we will continue to hear from other Black voices and as well as other marginalized communities. I am committed to doing the work and I hope you join me,” Selena wrote.
