Sean Wotherspoon took the sneaker world by storm in the late stages of 2017 thanks to his collaboration with Nike. The creator of consignment store Round Two had the brilliant idea of combining the upper of the Air Max 97 with the midsole of the Air Max 1. He then gave the upper some corduroy material with a plethora of different colors. His design had sneakerheads everywhere salivating and rightfully so. The shoe was first released in November of 2017 at Complex Con and then saw a wider (yet still limited) release in March of 2018.
Since the collab, fans have been eagerly awaiting a brand new colorway of the Air Max 1/97. A few months ago, Wotherspoon previewed a light blue model on his Instagram which sent sneakerheads in a tizzy. His post led to speculation of a brand new collaboration but according to Complex Sneakers, Wotherspoon is putting the rumors to rest.
"I’ve been done working with [Nike], at least on another SW collab, for a while. Still lots of good friends there. I help when asked, but being able to spread my wings again is the best feeling ever," Wotherspoon explained.
So there you have it. We won't be getting a new Nike Air Max 1/97 colorway anytime soon but at least we still have the original to fawn over.
