Black Panther: The Album dropped today, and it boasts one of the most stacked soundtrack lineups in recent memory. And while the project features appearances from artists like Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Ab-Soul, Vince Staples, and Future, the highlight track comes from some of the game's most underrated lyricists. ScHoolboy Q and 2 Chainz are the foundation of "X," which also features a verse from Saudi and some additional vocals from album curator Kendrick Lamar. Over an eerie reversed beat from Sounwave & !llmind, each rapper takes turns going in, with ScHoolboy and 2 Chainz each turning in some serious fire.
That's not to say Saudi doesn't kill it, because he certainly sets the bar with his opening verse. Still, there's something about Q's raw, unapologetic hunger that simply dominates any track, and it's hard to outshine TDE's lovable bully. Plus, 2 Chainz has been on fire lately; from Pretty Girls Like Trap Music to his brand new EP The Play Don't Care Who Makes It, Tity Boi has been snapping like a man possessed.
Quotable Lyrics
N***a, December been good to me
Not even Kendrick can humble me
N***a too rich to go do the lease
Tryna become a way bigger Meech
N***a, my tooth is like ten a piece
